About Finima Lighthouse
Also known as: Finima (Bonny River, Field Point)
This steel lighthouse was built in the 1950s and stands 28 meters tall, with its light positioned 30 meters above sea level. The square pyramidal skeletal tower, painted steel gray, supports a lantern and gallery. It emits a white flash every 20 seconds, visible for 15.3 nautical miles. Located on the east side of the Bonny River entrance, it marks the edge of the Niger River Delta and the approach to Port Harcourt. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The Finima Lighthouse is indispensable for the safe navigation of oil tankers and cargo ships entering Port Harcourt, guiding vessels through the Bonny River entrance. Its continuous operation supports maritime trade for Rivers State and the nation.
