Figgeskjær Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Figgeskjær Lighthouse
Built in 1892, Figgeskjær Lighthouse is a square skeletal tower standing 9 meters tall, topped with a red lantern dome. The lighthouse emits two white flashes, with red and green sectors, on an 8-second cycle. It is situated on a point of land on the west side of the Langesundfjorden, approximately 0.5 km from the port of Langesund. A fog bell tower in a Swiss-chalet style was added to the station in 1911, though the fog bell itself has been inactive since 1989. The lighthouse has a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. The station is preserved as a historic monument, with the grounds open to the public but the tower closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the entrance to the Langesundfjorden and is a designated historic monument, notable for its preserved Swiss-chalet style fog bell tower.
