About Fiddler's Reach Fog Signal Lighthouse
The Fiddler's Reach Fog Signal is a square pyramidal wood tower, clad in shingles, standing 9 meters tall. Built in 1913, it features a granite foundation. The signal originally emitted a white flash every 4 seconds. Although it became inactive in 1972, the tower underwent restoration in 2000. In 2016, a fog bell was loaned and installed, continuing the site's original function.
Why it matters: This fog signal was important for safe passage through Fiddler's Reach, a waterway that could present navigational challenges, especially in poor visibility.
