About Feøy Lighthouse
The Feøy lighthouse stands on the islet of Vindkjeft, marking the southern entrance to the Feøy archipelago. Established in 1871, the current structure is a 6.1-meter pyramidal fiberglass tower, painted white with two black horizontal bands. Its focal height is 12 meters, providing a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. The light emits an occulting white, red, or green signal, completing a cycle every 2 seconds. In 1951, the original keeper's house was relocated to the neighboring island of Duøy, with only its foundation remaining. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for safe passage through the southern entrance of the Feøy archipelago, guiding vessels navigating these often-challenging coastal waters.
