About Falsterbo Lighthouse
Also known as: Falsterbo (Falsterbo Udde)
Built in 1796, this cylindrical brick lighthouse stands 25 meters tall on the southwestern tip of Sweden, marking the convergence of the Baltic Sea and the Öresund strait. The tower, which features one black horizontal band, has a focal height of 24 meters and a geographic range of 14.1 nautical miles. It emits two white flashes every 18 seconds. The structure comprises a round brick tower with a lantern and gallery, all centered atop a two-story brick keeper's house. Located near the port of Skanor, this lighthouse has guided vessels for many years.
Why it matters: This lighthouse was essential for directing ships through the narrow and hazardous waters where the Baltic Sea meets the Öresund strait, a significant international shipping route. Its distinctive architectural design, with the tower integrated into the keeper's house, represents an early lighthouse construction style in the area and connects to centuries of maritime history.
