About Execution Rocks Lighthouse
The Execution Rocks Lighthouse stands in the middle of Long Island Sound, marking the boundary between New Rochelle and Sands Point, New York. Construction of the granite tower was completed in 1849, the same year it was first lit. The lighthouse stands 18 meters tall, with its light positioned 19 meters above sea level. The white light emits a single flash every 10 seconds. The tower is painted white with a brown band encircling its midsection, and an attached stone keeper's house remains, though it has been uninhabited since the light's automation in 1979.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
