Estevan Point Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Estevan Point Lighthouse
This white, octagonal concrete tower stands 30 meters tall, with its light visible for 17 nautical miles. The automated light emits two white flashes every 15 seconds, operating 24 hours a day. It is situated on a headland on the west coast of Vancouver Island within Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park. The Canadian Coast Guard continues to maintain the operational light. Its focal height reaches 37.5 meters above sea level.
Why it matters: Estevan Point is a heritage lighthouse that marks the entrance to Nootka Sound. In 1942, it was fired upon by a Japanese submarine, the only such attack on Canadian soil since the Fenian raids.
