Estevan Point Lighthouse

Fl (2) White 15s🇨🇦Area C (Long Beach), CAOperational

An octagonal concrete tower, 30.5 meters in height, began operation in 1910. The structure, which includes flying buttresses, a lantern, and a gallery, is colored white with a red lantern. Its focal height is 37.5 meters, and it provides a visibility range of 16.7 nautical miles. The light shows two white flashes at 15-second intervals. This station, situated on a headland within Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park, was fired upon by a Japanese submarine in June 1942. The original Fresnel lens and lantern were taken away in the 1980s and subsequently given to a museum.

Why it matters: Designated a heritage lighthouse in 2014, Estevan Point marks an important headland on Canada's Pacific shoreline. This location is unique as the only Canadian lighthouse site attacked by a Japanese submarine during World War II.
