It is located on the east side of the Estero Salado, about 12 kilometers across from Carrizal. The light emits a single white flash every 5 seconds and has a geographic range of 14.5 nautical miles. Positioned near the port of Guayaquil, it functions as the rear marker for an eastern range. The tower also features a red and white slatted daymark for daytime visibility.
