Bajo Salinas Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Bajo Salinas Lighthouse
The Bajo Salinas lighthouse, an inactive concrete skeletal tower, stands on a square platform supported by piles. Its white and orange structure rises 13 meters high, with the light situated 12 meters above sea level. For years, it emitted an isophase white light, with red and green sectors, on a cycle determined by the light's characteristics. Located on the east side of the Estero Santa Rosa entrance, approximately 5 km north of Puerto Bolívar, its geographic range extended 13 nautical miles. The lighthouse ceased operations in 2020.
Why it matters: Its former operational status was essential for guiding vessels safely into and out of the Estero Santa Rosa, a critical waterway for maritime traffic heading to or from Puerto Bolívar.
