About Emery Point Lighthouse
Emery Point Light, established in 1900, guides vessels at the entrance to Port Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory. It stands 18 meters above sea level. The light emits three white and red flashes in sequence every 15 seconds. This lighthouse is situated within Larrakeyah Barracks, a key Australian Defence Force installation. It is the second lighthouse constructed in the Port Darwin area.
Why it matters: This lighthouse proved to be the sole navigational aid that continued operating during Cyclone Tracy.
