Constructed in 1856, the Elm Tree Beacon Light was established in Downstate New York. It featured a focal height of 20 meters. This range light operated alongside the New Dorp Light, which served as its rear. Together, these lights guided vessels through the Swash Channel. The Elm Tree light is no longer operational.
Why it matters: The Elm Tree light acted as the front range marker for the Swash Channel, which is now managed by Staten Island Light and West Bank Light.
