About Ellingråsa Lighthouse
Also known as: Ellingråsa (Ellingsråsa)
Ellingråsa Lighthouse is a square skeletal steel tower standing 6 meters tall, with its focal plane at 22 meters. Its exterior is covered with siding, topped by a lantern room and gallery. The light emits two white flashes every 5 seconds, with its color changing between white, red, and green depending on the direction. The lighthouse is located on the island of Bjørøya in Flatanger Municipality, Trøndelag county. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is closed to the public. The nearest port is Sandviksberget, 17.7 kilometers away.
Why it matters: Completed in 1888, Ellingråsa Lighthouse replaced the old Villa Lighthouse and was automated in 1959. It provides a directional sector light to guide vessels along the Norwegian coast.
