About Djupodden Lighthouse
Also known as: Djupodden (Jomfruland Range Front)
Djupodden Lighthouse, built of wood in 1904, is a square tower standing 6 meters tall. It featured a white facade topped by a red lantern roof. The lighthouse emitted a white light with a single flash every 4 seconds, visible for 11.6 nautical miles. Its focal height was 14 meters. The light source was moved to a mast at the water's edge around 2015, rendering the original tower inactive. This former navigational aid is located near Kragerø on the coast of Jomfruland.
Why it matters: Its unique square wooden construction offers a glimpse into early 20th-century maritime architecture.
