Dixie Range Rear Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Dixie Range Rear Lighthouse
Established in 1915, the Dixie Range Rear lighthouse was a square pyramidal steel skeletal tower rising 26 meters. Mounted on a square concrete pier, its structure supported a lantern and gallery. This light guided eastbound vessels in Lac Saint-Louis, approximately 3.2 km west of Lachine, working in conjunction with a front light to mark a specific reach. Its light emitted quick green flashes. The tower was decommissioned in 2018 and demolished in July 2019, though its concrete pier remains.
Why it matters: The lighthouse, along with its front light, formed a navigational range critical for the safe passage of eastbound vessels through a busy section of the St. Lawrence River.
