About Crossover Island Lighthouse
Constructed in 1848, Crossover Island Light is situated on the Saint Lawrence River close to the Canada-United States border. The current cast iron tower, lined with brick and wood, was first lit in 1882. It stands as a white conical structure topped with a red lantern. The original lighting apparatus was a sixth-order Fresnel lens. The station was deactivated in 1941, with its foundation built upon a stone molehead.
Why it matters: Crossover Island Light Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
