Cole Shoal Range Rear Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cole Shoal Range Rear Lighthouse
An octagonal wood tower, 8 meters in height, was constructed in 1916 in Elizabethtown-Kitley, Ontario. It is painted white. The original lantern has been removed and an octagonal wood observation room now sits atop the structure. First illuminated in 1916, the range light marked a sharp turn in the waterway for eastbound traffic. The facility was deactivated in 1927, superseded by the De Watteville Island Range. Albert Munro acquired the tower in 1937 and installed the observation room.
Why it matters: The Cole Shoal Range Rear provided navigation for ships navigating a difficult turn in the channel near Brockville.
