About Champlain Upper Range Rear Lighthouse
This skeletal steel mast, standing 21.5 meters tall, was built in 2010 to replace an earlier structure. It is painted orange with a black vertical stripe as a daymark. The light emits a red flash every 5 seconds and is located on the north shore of the river west of Champlain, approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Trois-Rivières. This light functions as the rear marker for an upstream range system. Its focal plane is 28.5 meters above water, providing a geographic range of 15 nautical miles. The station was originally established in 1904.
Why it matters: This range light is critical for safe navigation on the river, particularly for upstream traffic approaching Trois-Rivières, ensuring vessels maintain the correct course through the channel.
