About Champlain Lighthouse
Also known as: Champlain (Sector, Range Front)
This square skeletal tower, built of concrete and standing 14.5 meters tall, is painted white and rests on a small concrete pier. A footbridge connects the pier to the land. The lighthouse is situated 1.5 kilometers west of the Champlain village quay. Its focal height reaches 15 meters, and it emits a red flash every 5 seconds, with a geographic range of 11.9 nautical miles. The station was established in 1844, and the current structure replaced an earlier lighthouse in 1906.
Why it matters: The lighthouse provides distinct guidance for local navigation, particularly for vessels approaching the Champlain village quay. Its unique design, a skeletal tower on a concrete pier linked by a footbridge, makes it a recognizable landmark.
