Cardigan River Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cardigan River Lighthouse
Also known as: Cardigan River (Range Rear) (relocated)
This square wooden tower, measuring 10 meters in height, was built and first lit in 1883. It was painted white with red trim, and the lantern housing was also red. The lighthouse served as the rear light of the Cardigan River Range starting in 1926. In 1967, a directional light was installed, and the front light was discontinued. All lights associated with the structure were decommissioned in the early 1980s. Following its decommissioning, the lighthouse was purchased and moved approximately 300 meters west to its current location within a summer cottage development.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's relocation and preservation after decommissioning highlight a common fate for smaller navigational aids, transforming them into historical structures.
