Cape Roseway Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cape Roseway Lighthouse
An octagonal concrete tower, 14.5 meters high, stands at Cape Roseway on the southeast point of McNutt's Island, marking the entrance to Shelburne Harbour. The tower, painted white with a red lantern, was first lit in 1961. It emits a single white flash every 10 seconds, visible for nearly 16 nautical miles. The current structure replaced an earlier lighthouse that was destroyed by a lightning strike and fire in 1959. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: This light station is historically significant as the second oldest established by the British in Canada. It guides vessels into the important Shelburne Harbour.
