About Cape Elizabeth East Lighthouse
Also known as: Two Lights
The eastern tower of the former Two Lights station, built in 1874, now operates as Cape Elizabeth East lighthouse. This white tower stands 39.3 meters tall, with its light positioned 39.5 meters above sea level. It emits a white flash, visible for 15 nautical miles. The original light station consisted of two towers until 1924, at which point only the eastern tower remained active. The facility is not accessible to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Two Lights on December 27, 1974. The western tower previously served as a fire control tower during World War II.
