The Cap de Rabast lighthouse, built in 1919, is an octagonal concrete tower standing 22 meters high. Its lantern room, painted red, sits atop the white structure, with the light itself reaching a focal height of 24 meters. This light emits three white flashes every 30 seconds, providing a geographic range of 14.1 nautical miles. Located on the northernmost point of Anticosti Island, approximately 25 km northeast of Port-Menier, the site is managed by a private entity for the Canadian Coast Guard. While the lighthouse tower remains closed to visitors, the grounds are accessible.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the northernmost extremity of Anticosti Island, serving as a key navigational point for vessels in these remote waters.
