Cap Chat Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cap Chat Lighthouse
The Cap Chat lighthouse stands about three miles west of the town of Cap-Chat, Quebec. Its current cylindrical wood tower, built in 1909, replaced an earlier structure first lit in 1871. The tower is painted white and features a bright red lantern and gallery. It stands 13.5 meters tall, with its light positioned at a focal height of 41.5 meters. The light emits a single white flash every 6 seconds, visible for 17.3 nautical miles. Although deactivated in 2007, the light was later relit. The site, including the former keeper's house, now operates as a resort, though the tower itself is closed to visitors.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is notable for its adaptive reuse as a resort and spa, with overnight accommodations available in the former keeper's house. Its distinct square cylindrical wood tower also offers architectural interest.
