Camden County Lightship Lighthouse

🇺🇸Camden, USOperational

Constructed in 1904, this 2-masted steel lightship measures 35.3 meters in length and 8.7 meters in beam. It served the United States coast for decades, initially positioned off Cape May, New Jersey, before its primary assignment for forty years off Barnegat Inlet. Decommissioned in 1967, the vessel later transitioned through several ownerships and exhibition sites, including a period at Penn Landing in Philadelphia. Acquired by Rod Sadler in 1993 for restoration, it eventually came to rest at Pyne Poynt Marina in Camden, New Jersey. The ship's deteriorating condition led to its inclusion on Preservation New Jersey's Ten Most Endangered list in 2018.

Why it matters: As one of the few remaining lightships, it represents a significant historical link to maritime navigation before the widespread use of electronic systems.
