Burnt Point Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Burnt Point Lighthouse
A gray metallic cylindrical steel tower, 9 meters tall, marks Burnt Point. This structure, built in 1990, stands 13 meters above sea level and emits a white flash every six seconds. It replaced a 1950s lighthouse that was part of a fog signal building, which was demolished when the current tower was erected. The station was first established in 1905. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed. It is located on a point of land that defines the eastern side of the entrance to Seldom Harbour.
Why it matters: Burnt Point Lighthouse is important for vessels entering Seldom Harbour, a fishing community on the south side of Fogo Island.
