About Burlington Canal South Pier Lighthouse
Also known as: Burlington Canal South Pier (Burlington Canal Range Front)
A square pyramidal concrete tower stands at the end of the south pier, marking the entrance to the Burlington Canal. Built in 1909, this structure replaced an earlier lighthouse established in 1842. The tower, which is 13 meters high, is painted white with a green band encircling its upper section. Its light emits a green occulting flash every 4 seconds. The lighthouse sits on a square concrete base and features a gallery.
Why it matters: This light is indispensable for guiding commercial and recreational traffic through the Burlington Canal's narrow entrance, ensuring safe access to the ports of Hamilton and Burlington.
