About Bungotakada Lighthouse
Also known as: Bungotakada (Bungo Takada)
This 8-meter red concrete post lighthouse is situated at the seaward end of a 2.6-kilometer training wall along the west side of Bungo Takada harbor's entrance channel. The structure includes a 1-story concrete equipment room. Its light emits a single red flash every 8 seconds, visible for 10.7 nautical miles. Although the site is accessible by boat and open for viewing from the water, the tower itself is closed to visitors. The lighthouse serves maritime traffic approaching the port of Haenohama, which is 1.7 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels into Bungo Takada harbor, particularly due to its position at the end of the long training wall that marks the entrance channel.
