About Brown County (Green Bay City Area) Lighthouses Lighthouse
Established in 1935, this lighthouse guides vessels into Green Bay harbor. It is located at the entrance of Green Bay, where the Fox River meets the bay, approximately nine miles northeast of the main harbor. The lighthouse emits a red occulting light every four seconds from a focal plane of 72 feet. Additionally, a fog horn sounds on demand, sounding every 15 seconds. The U.S. Coast Guard manages the active light, which is accessible only by boat.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is critical for guiding ships through the entrance of Green Bay, a significant waterway for the industrial city. It directly supports commercial shipping routes entering and exiting the Fox River, which drains Lake Winnebago.
