About Brekneholmen Lighthouse
Also known as: Brekneholmen (Borhaug)
A square pyramidal tower constructed in 1894 stands on a rocky ridge at the south end of an island near Vestbygda. This white structure, standing 5 meters tall with a focal height of 9 meters, is topped by a red lantern roof. It emits a sector light that flashes white, red, or green every 6 seconds, with a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. The ridge itself acts as a natural breakwater for the harbor of Vestbygda. Access to the site is possible via a causeway connecting the island to the mainland.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's sector light system offers precise guidance, delineating the natural rocky breakwater and hazards within the approach channel to Vestbygda harbor.
