Boyd's Tower Lighthouse

🇦🇺Bega Valley Shire Council, AUOperational

Boyd's Tower is a square, unpainted sandstone tower built in 1847 on the south side of the entrance to Twofold Bay. Standing 23 meters tall, this stone structure was originally intended as a lighthouse for guiding ships into the nearby port. However, it never served officially as a lighthouse, functioning instead as a daybeacon. The tower sustained damage from a lightning strike in the 1860s. The site is now incorporated into Beowa National Park, having been added in 1976. While the grounds are open to visitors, the tower itself is closed.

Why it matters: Constructed as part of ambitious regional development plans, the tower served as a visual reference for vessels entering Twofold Bay. Its location within Beowa National Park also marks it as a historical landmark.
