About Batiscan Range Front Lighthouse
This concrete range front lighthouse, standing 8 meters tall, was built in 2010 near Batiscan, Quebec, on the St. Lawrence River. Its square pyramidal pier supports a green light with a single flash characteristic. The tower itself is orange with a black vertical stripe, and the light is mounted on two posts above the pier, which is the base of the 1908 lighthouse. This station was originally established in 1864, with earlier lights housed in onshore wooden structures. The current light has a geographic range of 11.6 nautical miles.
Why it matters: The Batiscan Range Front light guides vessels navigating upstream on the St. Lawrence River. Its modern light is mounted on the historic concrete pier of a previous lighthouse.
