Barøy Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Barøy Lighthouse
Established in 1903, Barøy Lighthouse is situated on the west end of Barøy island, near Lødingen in the Lofotens. The structure features a lantern atop a concrete base, attached to a one-story wood keeper's house. This concrete and wood construction served the upper end of the Vestfjord. The lighthouse was deactivated in 2010 after over a century of operation. Following restoration by Kystverket, it was leased and now offers tours and overnight stays.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant for its historical role in guiding vessels through the Vestfjord and its unique integration of the keeper's house and lantern structure. Its conversion to a tourist destination showcases a successful preservation of maritime heritage.
