About Bara Andai Lighthouse
Also known as: Bara Andai (Bara Anda, Oyster Rocks)
Bara Andai, also referred to as Oyster Rocks, is a former lighthouse located on the largest island within a small archipelago on the eastern approach to Karachi Harbor. Originally, its light was shown from a short mast atop a 4.5-meter concrete building. The focal height of the light was 35 meters, and it had a geographic range of 16.2 nautical miles. The light produced two white flashes every 8 seconds. The Karachi Port Trust managed the facility. Access to the site is only possible by boat, and its current operational status is unknown.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marked the entrance to Karachi Harbor, warning vessels of the Oyster Rocks hazard on the shipping lanes.
