About Karachi Lighthouse
Also known as: Karachi (Range Rear)
The Karachi Lighthouse, a cylindrical tower standing 20 meters tall, was established on a round platform supported by tripod piles. Its focal plane reached 13 meters above sea level. This rear light formed part of an approach range, with a geographic visibility of 11.3 nautical miles. It emitted a white flash every 10 seconds. The lighthouse was discontinued in 2017, with the front light of its approach range having been deactivated in 2014. The Karachi Port Trust formerly managed the station. While the site is accessible, the tower itself remains closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse, along with its front range light, guided vessels into the Oyster Rocks harbor basin, contributing to the safe navigation of ships entering Karachi.
