About Bagacay Point Lighthouse
Also known as: Bagacay Point (Punta Bagacay, Liloan)
A cylindrical stone tower, 5 meters tall, was built in 1874 at Bagacay Point. This structure was later replaced by an octagonal concrete and stone tower constructed in 1908. The current lighthouse emits a white flash every 5 seconds from a focal height of 44 meters, with a geographic range of 17.7 nautical miles. The lighthouse site is accessible to the public, but the tower itself is not open for entry. It is located approximately 8 kilometers from Cebu, the nearest port.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels into the Mactan Channel, a critical waterway for ships bound for Cebu City. The 1908 tower is notable as one of the earliest lighthouses built by the U.S. administration in the Philippines.
