Avery Point Lighthouse

About Avery Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1943, the Avery Point Lighthouse stands 55 meters tall with its focal plane at 17 meters. Originally intended to be lit in 1943, its illumination was delayed until May 1944 due to World War II concerns about enemy invasion. Initially, the light emanated from eight 200-watt bulbs, later replaced by a flashing green light in 1960. The station was deactivated on June 25, 1967, when the Coast Guard Training Station relocated. Following a period of deterioration, restoration efforts began in 1999, with significant work completed by 2006.
Why it matters: Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Avery Point Lighthouse is recognized as the final lighthouse constructed in Connecticut.
