A cylindrical concrete tower stands 20 meters tall, painted white with narrow red horizontal bands. This structure, built in the 1880s, first became operational in 1905 after a period of bureaucratic delays. Its focal height is 21 meters, and it emits a red light with a characteristic of one flash every 12 seconds. The lighthouse is situated on a small islet just off the western end of Rangitoto Island, within Auckland Harbour. It is managed by the Port of Auckland and remains an active aid to navigation.
