This brick lighthouse, standing 51.5 meters tall with a focal height of 51 meters, was built in 1857. It displays a white light with a characteristic of a single white flash. The tower is painted white with a broad black band positioned about two-thirds of the way up its height. Operational from its first lighting in 1857, the lighthouse experienced a period of inactivity from 1933 until its reactivation in 1997. Subsequent years saw major tower restoration in 1998, reconstruction of the keeper's house in 2000-2001 after a fire, and the development of a park in 2014. A National Park Service grant for further restoration was awarded in 2024.
