About Asenvågøy Lighthouse
Also known as: Asenvågøy (Asen, Adsenvågøya, Asenvågsøy)
This cylindrical wood tower, standing 14 meters tall, was first lit in 1921. Its lantern and gallery are painted red, contrasting with the white structure. The lighthouse is attached to a 1-1/2 story wood keeper's house. It emits an occulting white, red, and green light with a 6-second cycle. Located on a small island about 6 kilometers northwest of Lysøysund in the Norwegian Sea, it maintains an operational status. The site is open to the public, but the tower is closed for restoration, which began in 2023.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's integrated keeper's house design offers a notable example of early 20th-century Norwegian coastal architecture.
