Arena Island Lighthouse

Also known as: Arena Island (Isla Arena)

The Arena Island Lighthouse is an 18-meter tall, octagonal white concrete tower with a gallery. It is located approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Cavili, marking the southwestern edge of the Cagayancillo Islands. This structure served as a navigational aid in its active years. While the lighthouse is now inactive, the site is accessible to visitors arriving by boat, although the tower itself is closed to the public. Its remote location on an atoll presents challenges to its preservation.

Why it matters: The lighthouse served as a critical marker for vessels navigating the southwestern Cagayancillo Islands, alerting them to surrounding shallow waters. Its remote position provided solitary guidance where other navigational aids were infrequent, improving safety for local sea routes.
