About Aoshima Kō East Breakwater Lighthouse
Constructed in 1964, this 8.5-meter cylindrical concrete post, painted white, is situated at the extremity of the primary eastern breakwater for Aoshima harbor. A single-story concrete building houses equipment. The light features a green emission, flashing twice in a 10-second cycle (F.Fl(2) G 10s), positioned at a focal height of 13 meters. Its visibility extends to 11.3 nautical miles, serving as a reference point for the harbor situated near Ao Shima in Miyazaki Prefecture. Visitors may access the grounds, but the structure is not open for entry.
Why it matters: This light clearly indicates the eastern entry point to the harbor near Ao Shima, functioning as a navigation aid for all craft entering the vicinity.
