About Amtmannsneset Lighthouse
Also known as: Amtmannsneset (Amtmannsnes)
The Amtmannsneset lighthouse, first lit in 1907, stands on a square skeletal concrete tower 7 meters tall. It is situated on a promontory projecting into the Altafjord, about 5 kilometers northeast of Alta. The lighthouse emits an occulting white, red, or green light every 6 seconds from a focal height of 9.5 meters. This directional light system is designed to guide vessels through specific sectors and warn of the landmass. The site is open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for safe navigation within the Altafjord, marking the promontory it sits upon and guiding traffic through designated channels.
