About Ako Kō Lighthouse

This concrete lighthouse, built in 1963, stood as a cylindrical tower 8.5 meters high on the north jetty at Ako harbor. It featured a round, hourglass-shaped structure and a focal height of 24 meters. The lighthouse had a geographic range of 5 nautical miles. It marked the entrance to Ako harbor on the southwest side of the island. The structure was removed in 1987 when the harbor was rebuilt and became inactive in 2012 before its demolition.
