Akitsu Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Akitsu Kō Lighthouse
Akitsu Kō lighthouse, established in 1962, is situated at the end of the west breakwater for Akitsu harbor. The original structure consisted of an 8.5-meter white concrete post attached to a one-story equipment shelter. In 2020, the lighthouse was updated with a new light source and repositioned on a simpler post. It now features a focal height of 11 meters and emits a green flashing light, with a single flash every five seconds. The lighthouse has a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse clearly marks the west breakwater of Akitsu harbor, ensuring safe navigation for vessels entering and leaving the port. The 2020 upgrade, which included raising the focal plane, demonstrates its continued operational significance.
