The Akimanaitaiwa Lighthouse is a 17-meter high cylindrical tower constructed of stone and concrete. Its exterior is black with one red horizontal band. Located off the south end of Kashima Shima, south of Kurahashi Shima in Hiroshima Prefecture, the light is at an elevation of 11 meters. It emits a white light with a flash characteristic of Fl W 5s. The edifice consists of a round stone tower with a lantern and gallery, placed on a round concrete pier. The site is accessible, but the tower is not open to the public. Tainouchi port is 4.7 kilometers distant.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the southern end of Kashima Shima, serving as a navigation aid for local channels and indicating the island's location.
