Storm Grounds Cargo Ship Sunny Faith off Kaliningrad
AI illustrationOn 9 October 2026, a Baltic storm drove the cargo ship Sunny Faith onto the beach at Yantarny, Kaliningrad Oblast. It lost propulsion. The ship had been approaching Kaliningrad from Skikda, Algeria, carrying no commercial cargo when hurricane-force winds pushed it ashore.
All 19 crew remained on board and were safe. Russian authorities confirmed no structural damage, no oil spills and no injuries. Russia's North-Western Transport Prosecutor's Office opened a maritime safety and environmental compliance investigation.
As of 12 October the crew had not requested towing assistance. The ship remained stranded. Built in 2007 and formerly named Beagle II, the 130-metre Bahamas-flagged ship is registered in Nassau.
