Fire killed at least 35 people on a Philippine passenger ferry near Coron, Palawan, on September 10, 2026. Fifty-four more were still unaccounted for a day later.
MV June Aster had departed Manila for Coron with 117 passengers and 17 crew when the blaze broke out. The Philippine Coast Guard, military ships, private volunteers and local fishermen responded; by September 11, rescuers had pulled at least 42 people from the water.
Bodies arrived at port for identification. Search teams kept working the waters near Coron. Investigators had not determined a cause.
Coron is a popular tourist destination in Palawan, connected to Manila by regular ferry services.
