Ukrainian-linked groups have carried out similar drone strikes against sanctioned Russian-linked vessels in recent months, though none has acknowledged this one.

Drone pressure on Russia-linked shipping has widened from the Black Sea to Mediterranean corridors this summer. Turkish operators Akkon Lines and Arkas suspended Russian Black Sea services after a drone strike destroyed one of their vessels last week.
