About Yángwōtóu Lighthouse
Also known as: Yángwōtóu (Yángwōdǎo) (Sheep Pen Head)
This cylindrical concrete tower stands 16 meters tall, with its light positioned at a focal height of 125 meters. The lighthouse, painted red, emits a white flash every 20 seconds, visible for over 27 nautical miles. Its construction in 1995 replaced a 1957 structure, which had taken over from the original lighthouse first lit in 1936. The tower rises from a cross-shaped keeper's house. It is situated on the east end of an island within the Lianyun District.
Why it matters: The Yángwōtóu Lighthouse offers a critical navigational aid with its significant focal plane, ensuring safe passage for vessels near the island's eastern extremity.
